Lesson #27
Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6 & 7 and Daniel 2:44
Among those who lived in the first century, many had heard the reading of the scriptures. They believed that someday God would send a redeemer to save men and women from their sins, which began as early as life in the Garden of Eden. Jesus didn’t just suddenly appear in a vacuum with no one’s expectation. There is a wonderful thread of anticipation throughout much of the Old Testament. In addition to the three scriptures cited above, let’s glimpse at some of the Bible verses that prepared believers for the coming of Jesus and the establishment of His kingdom:
Isaiah 40:3-5 and Malachi 3:1 Foretell a messenger will come before Jesus to prepare the people for the Lord’s coming. These are fulfilled in Matthew 3:1, 3 and Matthew 11:7 & 10
Psalm 34:20, Exodus 12:46 say that no bone was to be broken. Zechariah 12:10 states people would look on the pierced one and mourn. These scriptures find fulfillment in John 19:33-37
Zechariah 9:9 Foretells Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem on a donkey. This is fulfilled in Matthew 21:5 and Luke 19:32-37
Our remaining lessons of the Bible will come from the life of Jesus and His Kingdom, which is also called His church.
