The scriptures record that Jewish believers in Christ had fled to the city of Antioch from persecution in Jerusalem. By God’s grace and without personal prejudice, they taught the glad news of Jesus to their Grecian neighbors who believed and turned to Him. Those early followers were characterized by their unwavering devotion to the Lord. Suddenly, men and women who had lived self-centered lives were sending gifts to those who had been afflicted by a famine. In addition, they were sending preachers to tell the glad news of Jesus to others. Their unbelieving acquaintances saw the changes in their lives and called them Christians. Acts 11:19-21
